Overview

I teamed up with Ubisoft to develop a web presence for their immersive toy-to-life release, Starlink: Battle for Atlas.

Starlink is a new franchise from Ubisoft with a unique selling point of being able to build physical toys from a collection of interchangeable parts — then play the game using your custom starship (Similar to Nintendo’s Amiibos). To support this they needed a new marketing site to not only sell the game but also the physical toys.
challenges

A brand new system, made from scratch.

Ubisoft was using a forked, slightly unstable version of a legacy enterprise CMS, Tridion, and needed a new site, with all new components, on a tight timeline. They also needed wishlist functionality so that customers / kids could send their configured ships to their parents for purchase. Through extensive QAing and more than a few late nights, we managed to pull it off.
features

Cutting-edge performance and beautiful interactions.

When I was developing the site isomorphic javascript was all the rage offering better load times and SEO but hadn’t become as accessible to developers as it is today. Utilizing RazzleJS and React I worked with our back-end developer to create an engaging marketing site and wishlist. Customers could configure and create any combination of starship and pilot and have one easy shareable link to purchase them.
results
258% increase in conversions and an average of 4 minutes on site, averaging more than double the average for a game site.
